The problems which eventually dragged a famous technological innovator down into Chapter 11 bankruptcy are well-described in this presentation by Christian Sandstrom of Chalmers University. It is a good case because it highlights the deep difficulties involved – this wasn’t simply a matter of blindly missing the technological point but a much more challenging issue of strategic perception and action. Polaroid understood the implications of the digital imaging revolution in photography and were active and successful at R&D in this direction – but they still came unstuck
